Community is at the heart of everything we do at Outwest. It’s part of who we are.
But, we know it can be hard to get outdoors without the right people around you. Thankfully, Ireland’s outdoor community is thriving, and it’s full of people doing good things for all the right reasons!
Whether you’re hiking in Wicklow, swimming in Clare or meeting new faces in Cork, there’s a group out there waiting to welcome you. We've pulled together a list of some amazing communities across Ireland and even beyond, that make adventure feel easy and welcoming. You never know, you might find one near you to join on your next adventure!
Saol Sona
Based in Dublin with regular outings to the Wicklow Mountains, Saol Sona is all about getting outdoors and meeting new people. Founded by Lauren, who knows the best hidden spots and new locations to explore!
They mix things up with hikes, sea swims, coffee meetups, saunas, surfing, kayaking and more. Check out their Instagram page here where you can join their Whatsapp community to join an adventure near you.
Soul Stuff Adventures
Soul Stuff Adventures was founded in 2022 by Tipp woman Sarah Casey, now based by the sea in Clare.
Soul Stuff began when Sarah organised a hike hoping to meet new people who loved nature. Loads turned up, and the community has grown from strength to strength ever since! What started as a social hiking group is now a close-knit crew who share adventures across Ireland and even Europe.
Sarah’s goal is simple - to fill your cup with the good stuff: nature, laughter, friendship and the outdoors. Check out their Instagram to follow along!
Sliabh Hiking Group
Based in County Waterford, Sliabh (pronounced “Shlee-uv”) is a hiking community founded by April Brophy in May 2022. April started the group out of a love for the mountains and the sense of connection that comes from time on the trails.
Sliabh runs hikes of all levels - from coastal strolls to mountain climbs - and welcomes everyone, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced hiker, focusing on safety, respect for nature and shared experiences. Follow on Instagram here.
Outwest Outdoor Club
Our own Outwest Outdoor Club is based in Kerry but adventures all over Ireland. We host hikes and meet-ups open to all levels and abilities, often partnering up with some of the amazing communities mentioned in this post!
Our aim is simple - to get people outside, connecting and exploring new corners of the country.
If you’ve got a suggestion for where we should head next, we’re all ears, let us know in the comments! See you outdoors...
Head in the Wild
Head in the Wild is a passion project founded by Eimear during lockdown. What started small has grown into a community that hosts monthly hikes in Ireland, the UK and now even further afield.

Lugmo Hiking Community
Going strong since 2012, Lugmo Hiking Community has raised over €350,000 for charity. Based mainly around Wicklow, they’ve built an inspiring group with incredible energy and purpose.
Their tagline says it all - get up, get out and get after it. Each year, their Lugmo season leads up to a huge challenge in late November in support of the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team. The challenge always sells out, with events like sunrise and fancy dress hikes adding to the fun! A brilliant crew with a big heart, check them out on Instagram here.
Galz Gone Wild
Galz Gone Wild was founded by Mel McDermott to connect more women to nature and the outdoors. After reconnecting with nature to support her own mental health, she created Galz Gone Wild to help other women find the same sense of freedom and confidence outside.
Based in Ireland with hosts across the country, they organise hikes, workshops and getaways, creating a space that’s inclusive and empowering for all women. Check out their Instagram page here to join their community.
Fuel & Flow by the Brand Geeks & Sibly
Fuel & Flow, run by Sibly and Brand Geeks, is all about motivation and movement. They set monthly challenges and prizes to help people stay active and connected, especially through the winter months.
